Tanzania
Venture to East Africa where Kilimanjaro towers over the Serengeti. Assist local children at the region's leading special education center and scout for wildlife on safari.
The Setting
Our base in Tanzania is under the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro in the village of Moshi. Spend a majority of the 10-days with our progressive OutR.E.A.Ch. Hubs working to promote awareness of special needs in East Africa. We'll also uncover traditional village life of the local Chagga people. Learn to cook ugali and other iconic Tanzanian dishes. Go on safari and spot the Big 5. Venture into the bustling craft markets of Moshi and uncover Tanzania's rich history.
Our Project
Over the course of 10 days, we will assist our partners on a variety of ongoing projects that assist children with developmental disabilities in the area. The week begins with orientation and an exchanging of practices with the local teachers. We'll then accompany our partners into more rural village communities to help train the parents on techniques such as ABA and spread awareness of autism in the community. Our goal is to exchange knowledge with Tanzanian special education professionals as well as contribute to the well-being of special needs children in the community.

Culture & Exploration
In addition to our work in the community, we'll take time to explore our surroundings and take in the local culture. Get lost in the bustling craft markets, learn some basic Swahili phrases and meet members of a local Maasai tribe. Dine with local special education professionals and learn about the challenges facing children with special needs in East Africa. On the weekend, we'll head out of town on an iconic overnight African safari. Along with an expert guide, spot some of the most famous animals that roam the plains of Northern Tanzania - lions, giraffes, rhinos, zebras and cheetahs.
